Good day everybody.

Since recently having the opportunity to speak to some NDT clients, I would like to remind you of something very important.

As a technician, you are a service provider, and the system works like this:

The client requests a procedure from the NDT Company, compiled in accordance with a Code. Your company appointed Level 3 compiles that procedure and submits it for approval.

The first thing you do is to read through that procedure to see if there is anything problematic.

The second thing you do is to introduce yourself to the client. Then you ask the client if there are any additional requirements that he would like you to do, which may not be covered in the code or the procedure.

If there are additional requirements, ask him to put it on paper. This is no big deal, it happens all the time.

An example is this: British Standard MPI code allows 6mm linear indication on acceptance level 3. But the client may only allow a 3mm linear indication, especially in critical areas like T-welds.

YOU DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE CLIENT.

Forward those additional requirements to your Level 3 and he will amend the procedure. The procedure is then re-submitted for approval.

If you are unable to comply with these additional requirements, the Level 3 will ask the client for a concession. Again, this is no big deal, it happens all the time.

Your responsibility then is to perform the inspection in accordance with what you have been taught on course and comply with the procedure.

The client pays for the service that you deliver. If he is not happy, he will not pay.

Thanks guys.

Keep up the good work.
