The Nucleus Nexus Award 2025
Wynand Bezuidenhout
They say X-rays see through everything, but even they can’t reveal a heart as dedicated as Wynand Bezuidenhout’s! I’m nominating him for NDT Technician of the Year, and not just because he makes the rest of us look like we’re still figuring out which end of the radiographic film is up.
While most of us are busy hunting for material flaws, Wynand has proven himself absolutely flawless in his approach to NDT. From radiographic to penetrant testing, magnetic particle to ultrasonic and visual testing – he’s mastered them all! His commitment to safety is so thorough that rumour has it even his microwave at home wears lead shielding. Safety first, second, and third – that’s Wynand’s motto!
What truly sets Wynand apart is his generosity. He’s always the first to lend a hand, whether you’re struggling with a complex magnetic particle inspection or just need someone to hold your penetrant developer while you’re juggling equipment. And good luck catching him saying anything negative about fellow technicians – the man finds more positive qualities in people than all his testing methods combined find defects in materials!
Did I mention he invested in himself by paying for all his Level 2 qualifications? That’s commitment that deserves recognition (and possibly a reimbursement)!
In an industry where precision meets humility, Wynand Bezuidenhout stands out not by seeking the spotlight, but by quietly illuminating the path for others. He’s like a walking multi-method NDT lab – detecting flaws in materials but never in colleagues. If NDT technicians were test specimens, he’d be the one with perfect readings across all five methods!
I can think of no one more deserving of this honour.
