The Marco Smit Award for Advanced NDT  2025 – Motivations received for Ameer Subdar.

Ameer has dedicated his current role to the implementation of PAUT. He is meticulous with his work and is always keen to “do things right”. I have spent many occasions with him where he arranged to spend time outside of work hours, without compensation, to make sure that he is prepared to conduct his PAUT inspections not only to the best of his ability, but also verified by a 3rd party level 3. Even when his previous employer did not want to provide the additional support required, he always got in touch to make sure he was correctly setup, understood the codes and requirements in order to ensure the inspection was done right the first time around. 

At the moment he has a small company called SRNDT in which he continues these characteristics. This can be seen by how he prioritises his workforce, workflow and capital expenditure to make sure that he has the best equipment for the job. I speak under correction but I believe that he has recently invested in PAUT equipment that even the likes of the major NDT companies have not yet purchased. 

It is uncommon to see a young man with such dedication to the cause and I believe he is an ideal candidate for the Advanced Advocate Award.

Throughout his time, Ameer has consistently demonstrated key qualities that make him an excellent candidate. His leadership has been evident in guiding team members and fostering a collaborative  environment. He has shown remarkable adaptability in embracing new challenges and evolving industry practices. We can always rely on Ameer to deliver on his commitments, demonstrating his strong reliability. He consistently takes initiative to improve processes and contribute beyond his core responsibilities, which has been particularly valuable to our organisation due to the positive impact he has had within our company. Furthermore, Ameer possesses a very strong work ethic, consistently going the extra mile to achieve outstanding results. 

Beyond his contributions within our organisation, Ameer is also a keen advocate for educating others in the diverse forms and emerging technologies within the NDT industry. I feel that with his extensive knowledge and many years of practical experience in the field, this prestigious award would be a fitting recognition of his significant achievements and dedication to the advancement of NDT.

Ameer’s performance with Natal Inspection Service has been outstanding . His hardworking and puts in 100% dedication to any project/ inspection given to him. Ameer has always met his deadlines which has a great impact on the business reputation. His contribution towards Natal Inspection Service has been tremendously rewarding as he had brought in a lot of work/ projects for the company .

Over the past several years, Ameer has been instrumental in pioneering the adoption and integration of advanced NDT techniques within our organisation. He has championed methods such as Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD), and Digital Radiography (DR), ensuring our inspection capabilities meet and exceed international standards.  His ability to communicate complex technical principles in accessible ways has significantly improved cross functional collaboration between engineering, QNQC, and project execution teams. 

Ameer’s advocacy has not only led to the modernization of our NOT practices but has also ensured safer and more cost effective inspection solutions across our projects. He played a key role in transitioning from traditional to digital NOT techniques, reducing inspection times. improving defect detection reliability, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
